NJ Appellate Courts See 23% Drop in Oral Argument Requests

July 31, 2013

Oral arguments have dropped during the past 10 years in the New Jersey Appellate Court Division, according to an article in Law360.  Peter Verniero commented: "I think oral arguments can be useful and effective for many reasons, not least of which is that it gives you a window into the court's thinking and allows you as an advocate to clear up any misunderstanding or emphasize important aspects of your case... I think argument is especially important in the appellate setting because it is the only point of personal contact you have with the court."
