The New Jersey Supreme Court is the venue for a lawsuit over New Jersey’s budget cuts to schools last year. The Court released a report on the impact of the budget cuts and determined the funding reductions fell more heavily on high-risk districts, in violation of the formula set up by the School Funding Reform Act of 2008. When commenting on this issue, Peter Verniero stated, “The Supreme Court, however, has the discretion to consider the state’s fiscal situation in deciding the questions before it.” He continued, “Whether or how it will do so is a key question.”
