Robert Schiappacasse, Chair of the Sills Cummis Cannabis Industry Practice, was interviewed for this article on New Jersey regulations and legislation to watch this year.
As seen in this article, “…[T]he Murphy administration took a major step in establishing the adult-use cannabis market by starting to accept applications on Dec. 15 for cultivator, manufacturer and testing lab licenses. The application period for retailer licenses will kick off March 15.
“‘I think the state has moved forward rather expeditiously to get this going,’ said Robert E. Schiappacasse of Sills Cummis & Gross PC, co-chair of the firm’s cannabis industry practice group.
“While products may be available on shelves in early 2023, potential litigation over licenses could alter that timeline, similar to how litigation stalled the expansion of the state’s medical marijuana program, according to Schiappacasse.
“‘The potential for litigation exists as it did previously,’ he said. ‘Nothing I see in the current scenario is going to change that.’”
