Sills Cummis & Gross Dedicates Clive S. Cummis New Jersey Reference Room at Rutgers School of Law – Newark

Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. is pleased to announce the dedication of the Clive S. Cummis New Jersey Reference Room at Rutgers School of Law – Newark that took place in the newly designated room on March 23, 2011. Mr. Cummis passed away February 9, 2010. In 1971, Mr. Cummis founded a small firm of five attorneys known as Sills Beck Cummis Radin & Tischman. Today that law firm, Sills Cummis & Gross, is one of the largest in New Jersey.

Clive S. Cummis was a man of many talents. He was an excellent lawyer, a Democratic fundraiser who advised nearly every recent presidential contender, a board member and trustee of numerous non-profit organizations, and a major philanthropist. He was born in Newark and spent his life giving back to that city including serving as a committed founding director, secretary and fundraiser for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and serving on the Board of Trustees of the Newark Museum.

In the early 1990s, Clive worked with Arthur Goldberg who took over Bally’s and founded Park Place Entertainment, today known as Caesars. Over a five-year period, he was the Executive Vice President of Law and Corporate Affairs, Corporate Secretary, and served as the Vice Chair of the Board of Caesars Entertainment Inc.

In 2003, he returned to Sills Cummis & Gross as Chair Emeritus. He expanded his philanthropic endeavors, mentored young attorneys and acted as a senior advisor to the Firm.
