As seen in this article, “Prominent lawyers known for their LGBTQ activism and other advocates for gay rights—several of whom have broken barriers themselves—are lauding the appointment of Andrew Bruck as the first openly gay Acting Attorney General of New Jersey by Gov. Phil Murphy.”
“Murphy announced that Bruck, who spent five years at the U.S. Department of Justice, will become Acting Attorney General following the departure of current AG Gurbir S. Grewal on July 16 to join the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington to head of its Division of Enforcement.”
The article later continues, “‘Andrew Bruck’s appointment as acting New Jersey Attorney General is a historic and deeply meaningful moment for the LGBTQ community,’ said Thomas Prol, partner at Sills Cummis & Gross in Newark. ‘General Bruck has earned this position through his impressive background of scholarship and distinguished service.’
“Prol became the first openly gay president of the New Jersey State Bar Association, which he served from 2016-17, and a founding and current executive board member of Asbury Park-based LGBTQ-rights organization Garden State Equality.
“‘I commend Governor Murphy for recognizing Andrew’s impressive pedigree and work ethic, and also for the powerful statement this elevation makes about advancing criminal justice and law enforcement reform measures,’ said Prol.”
