New Jersey Governor Chris Christie nominated Walter Timpone for the state Supreme Court. As seen in the article, “Former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Peter G. Verniero of Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. noted that any new justice will bring a unique perspective to the variety of the court’s tasks, which include not only written judicial decisions but also consideration of more than a thousand petitions for certification each year and numerous motions and disciplinary actions.
From that standpoint, Verniero said, the dynamic of the court is in for a change, but the extent of that change is unclear.
‘Given the nominee’s reputation as an independent thinker, it is obviously too early to say whether the substantive direction of the court will be altered,’ Verniero said. ‘From what is known about Wally Timpone, I assume he will approach each case based on his understanding of the law and facts before him, which is the hallmark of a good judge.’”
