NJ Appellate Courts See 23% Drop in Oral Argument Requests

Oral arguments have dropped during the past 10 years in the New Jersey Appellate Court Division, according to an article in Law360. Peter Verniero commented: “I think oral arguments can be useful and effective for many reasons, not least of which is that it gives you a window into the court’s thinking and allows you as an advocate to clear up any misunderstanding or emphasize important aspects of your case… I think argument is especially important in the appellate setting because it is the only point of personal contact you have with the court.”
