Peter Verniero, a Member of the Firm, was interviewed for this February 19, 2007 CQ Weekly cover story about the death penalty. According to the article, “‘As a practical matter, we [New Jersey] are already operating under the system that the commission has proposed, namely a system in which we have life sentences without parole,’ says Peter G. Verniero, a former state Supreme Court justice and Republication attorney general, who thinks his state should drop the death penalty. ‘Capital punishment is not something that you should have on the books unless there is a very clear consensus that it is the correct policy.’”
