Sills Cummis’ Thomas H. Prol Elected to the American Bar Association Board of Governors
August 7, 2024
Sills Cummis & Gross Member Thomas H. Prol has been elected to the American Bar Association (ABA) Board of Governors for a three-year term. Mr. Prol serves as the District III Governor, an area that covers New Jersey and Pennsylvania. ABA President Bill Bay simultaneously appointed him to the Board’s Finance Committee, which oversees the Association’s budgetary and fiscal operations. Mr. Prol maintains a seat in the ABA’s other bi-cameral policy-making board, the ABA House of Delegates.
The 43-member Board of Governors has the authority to act and speak for the ABA, consistent with previous action of the House of Delegates, when the House is not in session. The Board usually meets four times a year. It oversees the general operation of the ABA and develops specific plans of action.
Mr. Prol is a longtime leader in the ABA; he previously served as a state bar representative in the ABA House of Delegates, as a Commissioner on the ABA Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI), on the ABA Coalition on Racial and Ethnic Justice (COREJ), and as the Second Circuit Governor of the ABA Law Student Division, among other leadership and advocacy roles.
Locally, Mr. Prol is a Past President of the New Jersey State Bar Association, serving as its first openly gay leader in 2016-2017.
