Some of his quick tips included: Make sure the franchisor moves quickly to find a location and ask for your money back if it is not found in a timely manner. Companies sometimes say they won't put another franchisee in the same sales territory, but that does not preclude them from opening a company owned store not far from yours. Make sure the company does not have a practice of borrowing from advertising funds that the franchisees pay for to help drive customers to their business.
